Family Weekend Getaway to Ocean City in New Jersey

Ocean City in New Jersey
Ocean City is one of the most family-friendly beach destinations in the entire state of New Jersey. Even though it's a year-round seaside community, the best time to visit with your family is from May through the end of September. During the "in-season" you'll find all of the local attractions open for business and you'll find plenty of family-friendly events to attend.

When we plan weekend getaways to Ocean City, we do it over extended weekends, meaning we'll stay 4 days and 3 nights. If you only have 2 nights to spare, that's okay too...but I really feel you'll need an extended weekend to enjoy some of the best attractions that they have to offer.
Ocean City Town Clock on Boardwalk in New Jersey

On a recently family weekend getaway down to the Jersey Shore, here is what our family got to enjoy. Our activities are listed in no specific order. They'll give you a good idea of some of the things you can do why visiting Ocean City.
Sandy Beaches in Ocean City New Jersey

Beach Time Fun - We spent a little bit of time each day playing on the beach and/or taking beach walks. The beaches are beautifully-kept, but you'll need to purchase "beach tags" before you can get onto the beach. You can purchase them at several beach-access areas and some of the hotels/motels will provide them to their guests for free.
Adventure Mini Golf in Ocean City New Jersey

Mini Golf - You'll find several places up on the boardwalk where you and the family can enjoy a round of miniature golf. Our two favorite places to play mini golf are: Adventure Golf and Kongo Falls. Both have very nice courses that you'll want to play.
The Chatterbox Restaurant in Ocean City New Jersey

The Chatterbox Restaurant - One evening we went into the downtown business district to do some shopping and we enjoyed dinner at the The Chatterbox Restaurant. We were seated quickly, our food was delicious (nice children's menu too) and we found their prices to be affordable.
Columbus Day Street Fair in Ocean City New Jersey

Columbus Day Street Fair - We happened to be down over Columbus Day weekend and they hosted a huge downtown street fair. This street fair took up MANY city blocks and was extremely crowded. All of the shops & stores were open and along both sides of the streets you could find craft, gift shop and food vendors. Every few blocks they had live entertainment going on too!
Gillians Wonderland Amusement Park in Ocean City New Jersey

Gillian's Wonderland - At the one end of the boardwalk you'll find Gillian's Wonderland which is jam-packed with fun amusement park rides and games. You can pay-as-you-go for each ride by buying tickets or you can purchase a wristband and ride unlimited rides for the day. To avoid the late evening crowd, we decided to go during the late after & early evening hours.
Luigi's Italian Restaurant in Ocean City New Jersey

Luigi's Italian Restaurant - The one employee at the hotel we were staying recommended Luigi's Italian Restaurant to us one evening for dinner. If you enjoy eating home-cooked Italian cuisine, you're going to LOVE the food at Luigi's Italian Restaurant. Our food was delicious and affordably priced!
Ocean City Music Pier in New Jersey

Ocean City Music Pier - The weekend that we were in town they were hosting a Seafood Festival at the world-famous Ocean City Music Pier. Throughout the year you'll find all kinds of different sporting events, concerts, pageants, fairs, festivals and expo's that are held at the O.C. Music Pier. You can find a complete schedule of events online.
Mirror Maze on Ocean City Boardwalk in New Jersey

Mirror Maze - The one evening we wanted to do something a little bit different, so the family spent some time in the Mirror Maze. It's a little bit expensive (at least in my opinion), but I have to admit, the entire family had fun. It's located on the boardwalk and not far from the Music Pier.

As you can see, we had a jam-packed 4 days and 3 nights in Ocean City, New Jersey. While many people spend the majority of their time up on the boardwalk, we would like to encourage you to explore the downtown business district. You'll find over 100 shops, stores and restaurants located downtown too!
