The Elizabethan Gardens is a beautiful botanical garden located in Manteo, North Carolina. If you're going to be visiting the Outer Banks and looking for something to do....highly recommend that you add the Elizabethan Gardens to your schedule. Before you go...visit their website to get hours of operation, schedule of events and driving directions.
When visiting you'll want to wear comfortable walking shoes (you'll be doing a lot of walking) and dress appropriately for current weather conditions. You may want to apply sunscreen and bug spray before you enter the botanical gardens. Cameras are allowed, so you can take photographs while you're there.
One of the things that we really enjoyed seeing was the Queen Elizabeth I Statue that was placed there in 2006 to honor Queen Elizabeth I. It's stop #7 on the self-tour map. You can scan a map at the entrance or download & print a map from the pdf file on their website.
It's amazing how much the statue actually looks like her! Due to our family heritage, it was a must-see while we were there. A lot of visitors were drawn to the statue and wanted to see her. It's an incredible work of art!
After your done touring the botanical gardens at your own pace...make sure you stop by the gift shop. You'll find souvenirs and gifts that you can purchase to remind you of your visit. Throughout the year the gardens do offer plant sales, so check out their website for more information on that.
