Visiting the Beautiful Hershey Gardens

The Hershey Gardens are located near downtown Hershey in Pennsylvania. Milton S. Hershey always loved roses so the gardens were opened in 1937 per his request. Over the years the rose garden has grown into a beautiful botanical garden that covers 3 1/2 acres.

You can visit the Hershey Gardens from April through December. Their hours of operation will depend on the season and weather permitting. The Butterfly House is open year-round and is one of the main attractions at the gardens, especially for kids...but adults enjoy it too!

Admission Information: Children under the age of 2 are free. Ages 3-12 is $7.50 per person, ages 13-61 is $10.50 per person and seniors age 62 and older $9.50 per person. Admission tickets are available at the front gate. Parking is free.

When you visit you will find that they have 11 themed garden areas:

- Historic Hershey Rose Garden
- Seasonal Display Garden
- Perennial Garden
- Herb Garden
- M.S. Hershey Tribute Garden
- Rock Garden
- High Point Garden
- Ornamental Grasses Garden
- The Bill Bowman Garden
- Japanese Garden
- The Children's Garden

Also on the Premises:

- The Butterfly House
- Oak Grove
- Arboretum

We took the family there this past spring and had a wonderful time! Visiting any time of the year is great but in late spring...it's the best (in my honest opinion). Throughout the year they host various educational programs and events. You can find a list of those directly on their web site.

As you walk through the gardens you will find many shaded places where you can sit down and relax. These are self-guided tours and you can go as fast or as slow as you would like. They have a beautiful assortment of various flowers, shrubs and trees for you to see up close and personal.
When you visit the Hershey Gardens you will see beautiful roses, tulips, marigolds, pansies, azaleas, daisies, wallflowers, grape hyacinth, snowdrop, hyacinths and many more! What you see will depend on the current season.

We love to take our time when we visit and really observe the different flowers on display and the children love to explore the hands-on Children's Garden and the outdoor Butterfly House which are located on the property.

Although I have never visited the Hershey Gardens I can easily see why people would love to go there. You could spend hours wandering around and seeing all the beautiful gardens.
