Little Buffalo State Park is located in
Newport Pennsylvania, Perry County. This beautiful state park has something for everyone! You can go swimming in their large pool, hike one of their many trails, enjoy a family picnic, go boating and/or fishing or even spend the night in their campground.
The park offers large and small picnic areas...many of them include charcoal grills and for a fee, you can reserve one of the covered pavilions. The picnic areas are free to use unless you want to reserve a picnic pavilion. For the best picnic spots...you will want to arrive at the park early in the day
The exceptionally large swimming pool features two fun water slides and a spray-ground. If you plan on enjoying the pool and water slides, you will have to pay an admission fee to get into that area. There are licensed and trained lifeguards on duty and the pool area is extremely crowded on the weekends. We suggest trying to visit during the less-busy weekdays.
Nearby the swimming pool area you will find bath houses that include hot & cold showers, lockers for your belongings, running water restrooms, a concession stand and a first-aid station. The concession stand (snack bar) offers decent but overly-priced hot & cold foods and beverages. In my honest opinion, you are better off packing a picnic style lunch and just enjoying that there.
With walking distance from the pool area you will find the gorgeous 88 acre Holman Lake. This lake features two public boat launches, a nice dock that you can walk out onto and you can visit the boat rental building and rent paddle boats, row boats and canoes. Electric motor boats are allowed if they are properly licensed.
If you enjoy fishing...Holman Lake is stocked several times a year with large mouth bass, catfish, rainbow trout, sunfish and more! Fishing is open year-round and you can fish from your boat or from the lake's bank. No swimming is permitted in Holman Lake.
Little Buffalo State Park offers 8 miles of established hiking trails. Trails range from easy walking to moderate hiking. The trails are marked and there is a map so you can decide which trail is best for you.
Located nearby is their modern campground with approximately 40 sites. Access to a bathhouse with hot showers & flushable toilets are nearby. All sites have fire ring and picnic table available for your use. Camping is only available seasonally during the year. The campground can get busy during the summer season, so you'll want to plan ahead with your reservations.
If you're a fan of old wooden covered bridges, you'll find the history
Clay's Bridge within the state park. It was built in 1890 and is a Burr-Arch Truss Bridge. If you have a GPS, you'll want to plug 1579 State Park Road in Newport into your unit. The directions should pop right up.
Little Buffalo State Park is located at 1579 State Park Road in Newport Pennsylvania. It's a really nice drive from most areas in the state and parking is free. Throughout the year they host various educational events and you can find a complete schedule on their web site.
