Pirate Island Adventure Golf in Avalon New Jersey
We travel down to Avalon, Stone Harbor, Wildwood and Cape May in New Jersey several times every year. When it comes to beach vacations, this is the place we like to be! Driving to the south Jersey Shore from south Central Pennsylvania only takes us 3 1/2 to 4 hours depending on traffic. Not only that, once you hit the New Jersey state line, it's a really nice drive too!
A few weeks ago we were down at the Jersey Shore and found a really beautiful miniature golf course in Avalon. We had passed this mini golf course several times the past few years...but never went in to play. Shame on us because we love their "sister" golf course up in Ocean City and really enjoy that one!
Pirate Island Adventure Golf has been voted the BEST Mini Golf in South Jersey for the past 17 years and now I can see why and I totally agree with them being the best place to play! It's located on 27th Street and Dune Drive in Avalon, one of the main drags and within walking distance of all of the shops & stores. They're open from May through late September, in other words, during the beach season.
It's your classic 18 hole mini golf course with a few easy, medium and some tougher holes. On most of them I averaged a 2 par and my hubby a 3 par, but we are BOTH avid miniature golf players and play the game all of the time. It's a great hobby for couples (and families) to have!
This course is beautifully laid out and you see something new & different with every hole. You'll walk in front of waterfalls, underneath (behind them) and walk across them via a walkway bridge. There are pirates behind bars, caves & tunnels to walk through, big pirate ships to walk through and so much more!
There are plenty of benches and places that you can sit as you go along. Just mentioning this in case you're playing during a very busy & crowded time or if you have someone along with you (for health reasons) who needs to sit & take breaks. The course is very clean and well-maintained the entire way through & the two employees that we met...were very nice & helpful.
On the day that our party of 3 adults played miniature golf...there was only one couple ahead of us and one behind us. We played in the early afternoon which isn't a super busy time. If you go during the evening hours, it would be more crowded and may take you some time to play. On the day we were there, we were through the entire course in about 45 minutes and we really took our time.
After we were done playing there...we walked down the street and did some shopping. It's so much fun playing tourist in a coastal beach town such as this one! Avalon is a lot of fun and it's a little bit lower-key than Wildwood. It's nice to spend some time there and their beach area is absolutely gorgeous and a must-see too!
You can visit the Pirate Island Adventure Golf website to get their hours of operation, driving directions and you can connect with them on Facebook. You can join their FREE fan club and get special announcements and discount coupons too! Overall, this is our new FAVORITE place to play mini golf while down at the shore!

I have not played miniature golf in many years and at that time the miniature golf courses we attended were not very special. This one looks magnificent with waterfalls, tunnels ,etc
