Major Richard Dick Winters Memorial Monument in Ephrata

Major Richard Dick Winters Monument in Ephrata Pennsylvania
Major Richard Dick Winters was a famous World War II hero and his story was featured in the mini series Band of Brothers which was featured on HBO and sold on DVD. He was the commander of Easy Company, 506 Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. He was once quoted to say "Wars do not make men great, but they do bring out the greatness in good men."

The statue and memorial are located in Veteran's Plaza (park) in Ephrata and is a replica of one that is currently in Normandy, France, recognizing him and his efforts during D-Day, World War II. Richard Dick Winters was an Ephrata native who passed away in 2011. To honor him here, locals took up collections and raised money to have a replica placed in Veteran's Plaza.

Unfamiliar with the area? You'll find Veteran's Plaza located at 29 East Fulton Street in Ephrata, Pennsylvania. We are located in central PA and took US Route 322 into Ephrata and was able to easily find it. Just note, there isn't any good signage off US Route 322 or Main Street, so if you're unfamiliar with the area, plug the address into your GPS unit to find it.

Once you arrive you'll find a nice-sized parking lot that you can park in. You'll see the monument sitting to the right side of the parking lot with the American flag and some park benches surrounding it. Right behind the monument you'll see the park's walking, biking and running trail. All of this is FREE for visitors to see, use and enjoy.

On the day that we visited we spent about 30 minutes there walking around and reading the provided information about Major Richard (Dick) Winters. Since we're big fans of the Band of Brothers mini series and documentaries, we already knew quite a bit about Major Winters, so that's why we wanted to pay this memorial site a visit and pay our respects. What an incredible man and hero!

If you're going to be passing through or visiting the Lititz, Ephrata or Lancaster areas...we highly recommend that you stop in for a visit. We found it to be a very enlightening and humbling experience. A quiet and beautiful place where you can sit down for a bit and just reflect on what it all means and the important part that Major Winters played in D-Day and World War II. He'll never be forgotten and is a hero to many.

I can't wait to ride out and pay my respects.
I greatly admire Richard Winters and all of our Veterans and thus plan to make this trip as a gesture of honor to them all.
