First Catholic Slovak Union Jednota Memorial in Middletown

First Catholic Slovak Union Jednota Memorial in Middletown Pennsylvania
The First Catholic Slovak Union Jednota Memorial is located on Rosedale Avenue in Middletown, Pennsylvania. While driving through the area, we stumbled upon it by accident. We live about 20 minutes away and never knew it was there. What a nice find and we enjoyed learning more about it.

According to the First Catholic Slovak Union's Website:

The memorial was developed for their members and their families on a permanently dedicated 3 acres of land on Jednota property. "A rebronzed “Doughboy” statute is a key highlight of this Memorial, honoring those who served in any wars and also giving the opportunity for our Members to honor and remember their ancestors and family members who have made and make our Society great."

"Also included throughout the site: the existing pillars leading to the old Orphanage; a stone sign identifying the First Catholic Slovak Union – The Jednota; three flags of polished red granite etched with the national flags of the United States, Canada and Slovakia; granite plaques etched with FCSU historic scenes and subjects; and 19 blocks of high quality red granite each of which are designed to contain “bricks” that contain memoriam messages from members and their families."

You can visit the First Catholic Slovak Union's website to learn more about the Jednota Memorial. From what I read on their website, the memorial was dedicated on September 13th, 2015.

When visiting, you'll can pull off alongside the ride or drive down just a little bit to find an area that you can pull into. The memorial is FREE to visit and I recommend that you ONLY walk on the paved and marked areas. There are a lot of plaques and stones to read, so you'll want to take your time reading the information or photograph it to read later.

The photographs that we're featuring in our post today are ones that we personally took during our visit. We spent about 40 minutes walking around and reading the information. Once we got home, we learned more by doing some research online. One of the things I learned is that there used to be an old orphanage on the site. The memorial is really beautiful to look at and was a nice find during our little road trip through Middletown.
