Pennsylvania State Police Historical Marker in Hershey

Pennsylvania State Police Historical Marker in Hershey
My wife and I have been road tripping it around the great state of Pennsylvania and checking out all of the historical markers along the way. About 7 years ago we got into visiting the markers and documenting them along the way. Millions of people every year just drive by them and never give them a second thought. We're hoping to change that.

While on a road trip through Cornwall in Lebanon County we found several historical markers that we had never seen or documented before. Over the next few weeks we'll be sharing them with all of you and documenting them right here on our blog and over on our one board on Pinterest.

Pennsylvania State Police Historical Marker

First uniformed state police force of its kind in the nation, created by an Act of the General Assembly May 2, 1905, signed by Governor Samuel Pennypacker. The force was formed in response to concern over labor and capital unrest, especially the Anthracite Coal Strike of 1902. At this site the State Police established its first training academy in 1924. Cadets were trained here for 36 years until a new academy was built north of Hershey.

If you want to visit the marker and document it for your own records, you'll find it located on Cocoa Avenue in Hershey, Pennsylvania. For those of you who are not familiar with the area, Hershey is located in Dauphin County. There are 8 additional historical markers within a 1 mile radius from this particular one. We were able to easily pullover alongside the street and photograph it.

Hershey is better known as the Sweetest Place on Earth and attracts millions of travelers and visitors every year. Nearby you'll find the Hershey Theater, Hershey's Chocolate World, Hersheypark, ZooAmerica North America Wildlife Park and The Hershey Story Museum.
