A few months ago we went on a road trip and passed through the great state of Alabama. During our trip we stumbled upon the
Tannehill Valley Estates Covered Bridge in McCalla. The bridge is located at Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park near the John Wesley Hall Grist Mill. We're big covered bridge fans, so we had to stop by for a few minutes to see it.
This covered bridge is absolutely beautiful. It's a lot different looking than the old covered bridges that we see in Pennsylvania. The Tannehill Valley Estates Covered Bridge is more on the "modern" side, built in 1972 and spans across the Tannehill Mill Creek.
It is a privately-owned bridge (see the signage), but is open to the public for public use. It's not suitable for large, heavy trucks, but smaller light-weight trucks making local deliveries can pass through it. The bridge is approximately 45 foot long and is in excellent condition. It's always nice to see that privately-owned bridges are being taken care of and being preserved for future generations to enjoy.
If you're passing through the area and enjoy seeing country-style
covered bridges, I think you'll enjoy seeing this one.
