Cape May High School - A National Historic Landmark

Cape May High School - A National Historic Landmark in New Jersey
The Cape May High School was built in 1917 by William Porter and designed by architect Henry Vaughn. It's located on Washington Street in Cape May, New Jersey. The entire seaside town was named a National Historic Landmark in 1976 to preserve all of the Victorian architecture including the old high school.

While on a trip down to Cape May County we were able to walk around the grounds and check out some of the sights. As you can see from our photographs...the building is now being used as a Municipal Building...housing government offices, city hall and the police department.

Its an old red brick building with cement steps leading up to the front door. All around the building and property you'll find beautifully planted rose bushes, ornamental trees and flower gardens. The landscaping is colorful and they keep it well-groomed.

Since we were tourists we didn't venture inside although we would of loved a tour of the old historic building. If you're going to be visiting the area...you'll find it located about 1 to 2 blocks down the street from the Washington Street Mall in Cape May.
