Raymond B. Winter State Park is situated on 695 acres in
Union County,
Pennsylvania and surrounded by Bald Eagle State Forest. If you're unfamiliar with the area you'll find it located 16 miles west of Lewisburg on PA Route 192. The park was named after State Forester Raymond Burrows Winter in 1957 to honor his 45 years of forestry service in the surrounding area.
The park is open year-round to visitors from sunrise to sunset. During the summer guests can enjoy camping, picnicking, hiking, swimming, mountain biking, fishing, etc. During the winter season guests can enjoy snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, ice fishing, etc. Hunting is permitted during certain times of the year with proper permits.
Halfway Lake is the main focus point of the park. You'll find sandy beaches, picnic tables, playgrounds, restroom facilities, etc. The beach is unguarded, so you're responsible for your own children and swim at your own risk.
Throughout the year they host various educational opportunities such as guided nature walks, wildlife observation, educational programs, etc. Curriculum based activities are available to schools and youth groups. You'll want to
contact the park office to learn more about these activities.
A few times throughout the summer season we enjoy visiting R. B. Winter State Park to enjoy the beach, swimming and picnicking. We pack a cooler with lunch and beverages to enjoy. You'll want to bring along your bathing suit, change of clothes, towels, sunscreen and bug spray. During the busy season you'll want to arrive early so that you grab your desired spot.
When hiking on the trails we recommend that you dress appropriately for the current weather conditions and wear comfortable walking shoes. When possible, hike using the buddy system and let other people know where you'll be and when you expect to return. Bring along bottled water, a few shelf-stable snacks, bug spray and sunscreen. Some trails are an easy hike and others are for more experienced hikers.
We always have a nice time when visiting the park. You want to plan ahead, bring along the items you think you'll need and please remember to clean-up after yourself when you're done. It's important to keep our State Parks clean!
