Gen. J.E.B. Stuart's Southern Cavalry Historical Marker

Over the last 11 years we've been following the Pennsylvania Historical Marker Trail all through our great state and documenting them on the blog. Millions of people walk or drive by these markers every year and never give them a second thought. They're a great source of historic information and we're trying to bring some much needed attention to them.

While following the Historical Marker Trail through northern York County we came across the J. E. B. Stuart's Southern Cavalry historical marker located on North Baltimore Street in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania. Here's the information on imprinted on it.

Gen. J.E.B. Stuart's southern cavalry numbering about 6000 men arrived in Dillsburg July 1, 1863 by Dover and Rossville. Local stores and the U.S. Post Office were vandalized before proceeding to Carlisle where orders were received for them to rejoin Gen. Lee's army at Gettysburg.
