Harrisburg City Skyline and Susquehanna River Bridges

Harrisburg City Skyline and Susquehanna River Bridges
Harrisburg is the capitol city of Pennsylvania. You'll find it located in Dauphin county, right along the banks of the mighty Susquehanna River. It's a city that is rich in culture, history, the arts and it's pretty diversified, at least in my opinion.

I've called this area home for the majority of my life and I'm always amazed at the things you can see and do around here. Over the past few decades, it's really grown into a nice tourist destination for travelers and a nice place to raise a family.

Today I wanted to share three photos that I have of the city of Harrisburg. The first photo shows the city's skyline...while looking over the Susquehanna River. On a great weather day, you can see for miles and certainly from the banks of the West Shore over to the East Shore of the river. When the river fog sets in on bad weather days...you're lucky if you can see 100 feet in front of you.

The second photo is featuring several of the bridges that takes travelers and residents from one side of the river to the other side. In other words, from the East Shore to the West Shore and vice versa. Some of these river bridges have been around for many decades and need some restoration & work. The photo below shows the Susquehanna River alongside Harrisburg. Photo was taken while going from the west shore to the east shore.
The Susquehanna River in Harrisburg Pennsylvania

Harrisburg is unlike most major capitol cities that you find around the the United States. Our population is a lot lower than major cities, our crime rates are lower and I think overall...it's just a much more attractive city when you're passing through or visiting it. The residents who call Harrisburg home...take great pride in their city.

If you're not from this area, but plan on passing through or visiting, you can find hundreds of different posts right here on our Pennsylvania & Beyond Travel Blog to give you some ideas on places to stay, things to do and where to go to eat. While it may not be the best city in the world, it's where we call home and we wanted to share just a little taste of it with you.
