Visiting the George F. Boyer Wildwood Historical Museum

George F. Boyer Wildwood Historical Museum in New Jersey
Tired of the blazing sun and searing heat? Looking for something to do on a rainy day down at the Jersey Shore? If you answered YES to either of those questions you'll want to head to the George F. Boyer Wildwood Historical Museum on Pacific Avenue. The museum is open year-round, although their hours vary depending on the day and season of the year.

On the day that we visited we had a little bit of a hard time finding a place to park. We finally parked on a side street and dropped our quarters into the parking meter. We couldn't find any designated parking lot for the museum, but they did have a few metered parking spaces out front, although all were taken on the day we were there.

Admission into the museum is FREE, although they do request that you make a donation. We decided to drop $10.00 into the donation box. The clerk took us to a seating area and turned on a short film for us to watch. This film will give you history on Wildwood and the immediate area. We found it to be very informative and well-produced. Definitely worth watching if you're interested in the old-time history.

Your tour is self-guided, so you can really take your time walking through the museum and viewing the exhibits. We saw a lot of vintage photographs, old music records, Wildwood souvenirs, an old bumper car from an amusement park, items from old hotels and restaurants, old uniforms and all sorts of other things. Everything is well marked and identified, so you can learn about each item that you see.

We took our 9 year old granddaughter along with us and she quickly got bored. I would say that this museum is mainly for adults and perhaps old children who have an interest in this type of thing. My granddaughter is "more" used to hands-on children's museums where there are things for young kids to do. This is mainly a see and read type of place.

If you plan on visiting the Wildwood Historical Museum we recommend that you allow at least 1 full hour in your schedule. If you want to really experience everything that it has to offer by reading information and visiting each exhibit...plan for two hours. Questions along the way? Don't be afraid to ask the attendant for additional information, our attendant was extremely knowledgeable and answer all of the questions that we had.

Once your finished they do have a few miscellaneous items for sale...aka souvenirs and trinkets. They had a large stack of old Wildwood postcards that you can buy and send them to your friends & family. Frankly, I prefer those vintage postcards over the modern day ones. Just my personal preference on that!

For those of you who are into waymarking you'll find the official Wildwood Museum and Town Clock on the street corner outside. Just walk down the sidewalk and it's a little bit to your left. Depending on how you enter the museum...you might not see it.

My husband and I had a really nice time visiting the George F. Boyer Wildwood Historical Museum on Pacific Avenue in Wildwood, New Jersey. Like I said, it's more of a historical museum for adults, than small kids. We would definitely visit again and it makes for a great rainy day, educational activity when you don't want to be out on the beach.
