Borough of Anglesea West Jersey and Seashore Railroad Historical Marker

Over the past 7 years we've been following the New Jersey Historical Marker Trail all through the Garden State and documenting them here on the blog. Millions of people walk or drive by these markers every year and never give them a second thought. They're a great source of historic information and we're trying to bring some much needed attention to them.

While on a road trip through southern New Jersey we stumbled upon the Borough of Anglesea 1885-1906 West Jersey & Seashore Railroad historical marker (marker number S7) located on New Jersey Avenue in North Wildwood, New Jersey. It sits right off of the sidewalk beside a residential home.

The WJSRR’s North Wildwood Station, located at this site, was very busy during the growth of the southern part of the Borough in the early 1900s, but the tracks in North Wildwood were abandoned after the Pennsylvania and Reading Railroads merged during the Great Depression. The last northbound passenger train stopped here on November 4, 1993, and the New Jersey Ave. Right-of-way was sold to the City in 1950.

This is a newer addition to the New Jersey Historical Marker Trail. There are several other markers located within driving distance of this one. If you're waymarking you'll find free street parking nearby, so that you can photograph the historical marker for your records.
