While following the Historical Marker Trail through Cumberland County we came upon the CARLISLE historical marker located at the intersection of Walnut Bottom Road and Bicentennial Drive. You can pull over on the side of the street to photograph it for your waymarking records. There are a lot of other markers nearby, so follow the trail to find them.
CARLISLE
Founded in 1751 as the seat of Cumberland County. Historic old frontier town. Supplied a contingent for the first regiment of the Continental Army in 1775. March against the Whiskey Rebels began here, 1794.

I too always want to stop and read any historical markers that I come across when traveling. They give me so much insight into the area and the history of that place.
