Last week we went to the Hershey Theatre to see the hit show Hairspray. Every year we go down to see 4-6 shows and always enjoy them. We pre-order our tickets online to save time and always get our preferred seating. The tickets are digital and they scan my phone once we arrive to see the show.
Parking is free via 2 main parking lots near the theater. However, I do recommend that you try to arrive early...at least 30 minutes before show time. It can take awhile to get through the line and go through security. They will ask you to open up bags, backpacks, etc. You have to walk through a metal detector and then they go over you again with a hand wand. Be prepared.
Hairspray the Broadway Musical is based off the book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan. Music and Arrangements by Marc Shaiman. Lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman. The show is based on the NewLine Cinema film written and directed by John Waters.
Here's a few cast members:
Niki Metcalf as Tracy Turnblad
Andrew Levitt as Edna Turnblad
Christopher Swan as Wilbur Turnblad
Billy Dawnson as Corny Collins
Will Savarese as Link Larkin
Sandie Lee as Motormouth Maybelle
Jamonte D. Bruten as Seaweed J. Stubbs

The show was approximately 2 1/2 hours in length with a 15-20 minutes intermission. During the intermission you can get up to stretch your legs, use the restroom, or pick up a light snack and beverage. We got Margaritas which were really good in a souvenir take-home cup. Just be warned...prices are what you would expect to pay at a theatre!
Cellphones have to be turned off during the performance. You're not permitted to take photographs, video, etc. during the performance. They recommend no talking, including whispering during the show. If you have any issues, there are volunteers and staff members nearby that you can go to. Don't confront theater go'ers on your own who are breaking the rules.
The show as hysterical, better than I thought it would be. My favorite character was Edna Turnblad played by Andrew Levitt who is known for the drag queen roles that he has played. He's a fantastic actor and very funny! The story line is entertaining, and the music and dancing was well done. We really enjoyed the show and are looking forward to July when we'll be seeing Anastasia coming to the theatre July 26th through the 31st, 2022. Tickets are available now!
