The Historic Boyer House at Central Penn College

The Historic Boyer House at Central Penn College

The historic Boyer House is located on the Central Penn College campus in Summerdale, Pennsylvania. This historic home is over 200+ years old and was once occupied by 7 genrations of the Boyer family. It's a beautiful old stone home with a wooden barn located nearby.

After doing some research online I was able to learn about the property's history on the Central Penn College's website. The owner of the college purchased the home and property in 1999 with a promise to restore the home and dedicate it to the Boyer family. You can read about the home's history by visiting the website HERE.

A local photographer recommended the property to us when looking for a site to take family photographs. There's a parking lot for visitors to park in. There's one path that leads from the parking lot and home up through the Central Penn College campus. Visitors are allowed to visit the property during daylight hours.

The back of the home is what faces the road, so to see the front side of the home you'll have to pull into the parking lot, park and wall down the little path to see it. When we were there it was beautifully decorated for the holiday season.

What is it being used for today? Well, it houses the offices of the college's president and vice president. The Historical Society of East Pennsboro Township maintains 2 rooms in the house showcasing memorabilia of the township's past. You can contact them directly for more information.

Sitting nearyby is a lovely old wooden barn that has been lovingly preserved too! If you walk around the barn you'll see a vintage metal water pump. Wow, I haven't seen one of those in years...years! If you walk toward's the right of the home you'll come across a little stream with bridge. Beautiful area to take a few family photographs.

Even during the winter season the property is beautiful to look at! We're going to visit again next year during the Fall foliage season to grab new photographs with the mountain ridge in the background. I bet the Autumn colors are spectacular during that time of the year.
