Historic White Mill Hotel

We took a road trip through western Pennsylvania and one town that we passed through was Belsano in Cambria County. We were traveling along route 422 in Blacklick Township when we spotted the old historic White Mill Hotel. It's no longer a hotel and is now a private residence.

After parking we got out and took a few photographs of it hoping we could find some history on it online. After looking around we couldn't find much info about it. We did photograph a nearby historical marker featuring Malcolm Cowley, an influential poet, editor, and writer. According to one website...Malcolm Cowley was born at the hotel in 1898. Other than that...we'll keep digging!

According to the Jackson-Township historical society Facebook page, the hotel used to have a porch and balcony, but both have since been enclosed and stucco added. It is only famous for Malcolm Cowley having been born there and his family spending summers there. Cowley worked as an ambulance driver in WWI and wrote a book about the effect of the war on writers like F. Scott Fitzgerald. Cowley lived to be 99, only passing in 1989. The hotel is now a private residence.
