A Fun Weekend Getaway to Ocean City in Maryland

Looking for a quick getaway for Spring break? This summer? Ocean City in Maryland is just a 4 hour drive from most locations in south central Pennsylvania. This seaside destination is open year-round although during the off-season some activities are limited. With that said, you can always find something to see and do while visiting. 

If you want to avoid spring breakers and/or large crowds you'll want to travel during the week. If you don't mind crowds...then an extended weekend is perfectly fine. We like traveling down early on a Friday morning and departing early on a Monday. 

Many of the hotels and motels offer big savings during the spring season...especially if you make your reservations for weeknights or go for a 5-night Sunday through Friday packaged deal. Some will give Seniors, Active Military, First Responders, etc. discounts too. Don't be afraid to ask! 

Amusement parks, miniature golf courses, go-karts, etc. start opening up during the weekends throughout the spring season. You can do a search online to see what is open and their hours of operation. Personally...we go down just for the weekend to relax. We enjoy beach walks, shopping, and dining out. If the grandchildren are along...then we seek out other fun attractions to keep them busy.

The boardwalk is starting to open up too although not at full capacity until late spring. With that said, you will find a few stores and restaurants that are open. For the best dining options during the off-season look for options a few blocks inland. No lines, no wait and great food!

While you're there make sure you head up onto the one pier to see something really unique. While up on the pair taking a scenic walk check out all of the padlocks that are attached to the fence barrier. It's something fun to see!
