Best Place to View a Sunset in Cape May

Sunset Beach in Cape May, New Jersey

Heading to the south Jersey Shore? Are you going to be visiting the Stone Harbor, Avalon, Sea Isle City, Wildwood, and/or Cape May areas? If so, you'll want to spend an evening on Sunset Beach in Cape May. It's located a few minutes from Cape May Point State Park and steps from the World War II Lookout Tower, the World War II Bunker on the Beach and other area attractions.

During spring, summer, and fall...Sunset Beach attracts thousands of visitors with most of them coming to see the world-famous sunsets out over the Delaware Bay. You'll want to arrive 30-45 minutes before the sun sets and park in one of two free nearby parking lots. It's a very short walk to the beach.

Majority of visitors bring along their beach chairs, lawn chairs, beach blankets, picnic baskets, and wine bottles. You can sit out on the beach relaxing and enjoying the free "sunset" show. The best time to visit is on a good weather evening with just a few clouds in the sky. During the tourist season it can get quite busy and on one particular night in September we counted over 250+ people out on the beach.

While waiting for the sun to set you can watch the boats go up and down the shoreline with tourists out on whale and dolphin watching cruises. We captured a decent photo of the Cape May Whale Watcher while we were there. You'll want to dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. For the best views you'll want to step out onto the beach.

Afterwards you can visit the Sunset Beach Gift Shop, the nearby Rock Shop, Sunset Beach Grille (in season ONLY) and the Sunset Beach Mini Golf is open from late Spring through early Fall. You can learn more about all of the attractions offered on Sunset Beach by visiting their official website. Attractions do vary throughout the year.
